Last Friday morning, 20 year-old Egyptian student
Mahmoud Hussein was finally released on bail after
spending more than two years in jail without charge.
His crime? Wearing an anti-torture T-shirt at an antigovernment
protest.
Over the last nine months nearly 145,000 of you
consistently petitioned the Egyptian authorities
for Mahmoud’s release. Your support not only kept
Mahmoud’s case in the public eye; it also helped
him deal with his situation. His brother Tito told us,
“Through your support, Mahmoud is getting stronger,
and through your support also, we still dream of a
nation without torture.”
You can make an immeasurable difference to people’s
lives. And this week, another young man needs our
support – to save his life. Ali al-Nimr faces imminent
execution in Saudi Arabia after he took part in antigovernment
protests in 2011. He was arrested at just
17 years old and suffered an unfair trial based on
“confessions” he says were obtained through torture.
Please tweet this message to King Salman bin
Abdulaziz Al Saud today, and help stop the executions
of Ali and two other young protestors, Dawood Hussein
al-Marhoon and Abdullah Hasan al-Zaher – all were
arrested as minors and now face the death penalty:
No justice in executions.
